JUAN CARLOS SCHAMBAHER IBARRA

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. I received a catholic upbringing and education. In 1982 I
received a Bachelor of Arts in Law and a professional title of law in Peru. In 1991 I also received a Masters of Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, in Lima. I am fluent in English, Spanish and French and have served as the Peruvian honorary consul of Tampa since 2011. I am also a veteran of the Peruvian Air Force and owner of the Lima-based law firm Ibarra and Associates. My expertise in law and international relations is founded on the experience from previous jobs and travels. My ability to travel between Peru and Florida provided me with an international awareness and an ability to understand important differences and similarities between the national cultures I have come across. My duties as a consul include aiding Peruvian and non-Peruvian nationals in the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Orange, Polk, Sarasota, and Osceola. Working as a consul can be arduous work but it is also encouraging to be able to connect with fellow Peruvians that share an experience with which I am becoming increasingly familiar. Despite being a consul I feel that my experience has no intrinsic difference to that of other Peruvians immigrating to the United States. It can prove difficult for many to adapt and understand a new culture and as a Consul I strive to aid those around me as much as I can.
